Der große Glanz zum Jubiläum fehlte, wenigstens aber zeigte sich Dortmund bei seinem 100-jährigen Geburtstag effektiv: Die Klopp-Elf rang mutige, aber harmlose Freiburger in einer mäßigen Partie mit einem Arbeitssieg bei eisigen Temperaturen und schwer bespielbarem Boden am Ende verdient nieder.
Dortmunds Trainer Jürgen Klopp konnte nach dem 3:1-Auswärtserfolg über den VfL Wolfsburg auf seine siegreiche Elf zurückgreifen.
Beim SC brachte Coach Robin Dutt mit Caligiuri für Jäger gegenüber dem 0:0 zu Hause gegen den 1. FC Köln taktisch eine defensivere Variante.
Die Borussia wollte ihr Jubiläum - der Dortmunder Traditionsverein wurde am 19. Dezember 1909 gegründet und 100 Jahre alt - natürlich mit einem Sieg krönen. Auf leicht schneebedecktem und tiefgefrorenem Boden war es vor ausverkauftem Haus bei bitterer Kälte (minus 10 Grad) aber Freiburg, das mit den Verhältnissen besser zurecht kam.
